To Return a Smile

By: Abigail Handojo 2022

I wonder if you knew all this time

Who you would become to me

Not just a playful partner in crime,

But someone I can call family

You taught me it’s fine not to be fine

That I can be broken but still be

One “down day” won’t dim my shine

And no matter what, I’m still me

I’d return all the laughter if I could

And the smiles you lend me so much of

All the silent burdens you’ve withstood

And the quiet way you show your love

For you’re the moon to my sporadic sun

More than just a simple best friend

For our “forever” has only just begun

And infinity doesn’t have an end

There’s still so much I wish to say

And I’m racing to document it all

Our history is growing by the day

So thank you for each and every call

I wonder if you knew back then

Just how much I needed you

So for all the smiles that you’ve lent,

I can only hope I’ve helped you too
